Is “Listen to Your Body” Actually Good Advice?

Listen to Your Body

One of the most common pieces of advice that pregnant and postpartum mamas get when they exercise or want to get back into exercise after having a baby is, “Just listen to your body and you’ll be fine.”

Now this may seem like great advice. And it is.

Listening to your body is key to helping ensure you aren’t pushing yourself too hard, creating any issues, or making any issues you’re already dealing with worse.

But there’s a problem with these words of wisdom that a lot of well-meaning doctors, trainers, and other pros fail to mention.

Which means that these hopefully helpful words can become totally unhelpful (and maybe even harmful) for some moms.

That’s why I knew I needed to create this video for you.

You’ll learn:

  • What “listen to your body” actually means
  • Why it may not be the best advice
  • How to make these words of wisdom actually work for you

Whether you’re pregnant, newly postpartum, or simply trying to get back into a more regular workout routine post-baby (even if that baby is months or years old) this video has some simple truths that you need to hear.

After you’ve watched, I’d love to hear from you:

What’s the best (or worst) advice you’ve ever been given about exercising during pregnancy or postpartum?

Leave a comment below and let us know. It’ll be fun to compare notes and help each other out by sharing what’s worked (and not worked) in our own lives.

Thank you so much for being a part of the SweetMomBod community and sharing your own words of wisdom. I know a lot of ladies will be thankful you did.

And remember, it’s okay to look like you had a baby. It’s okay to take longer than a month to “bounce back”. It’s okay to rest or binge watch Netflix during naptime instead of pushing through a workout when it’s been one of those days (or weeks).

You deserve more than the pressure you’re feeling to get your body back super fast.

You can look and feel like yourself again. It just doesn’t need to happen overnight.

So please take care of yourself and don’t pressure yourself to workout hard during pregnancy or dive back into your more intense pre-baby workouts before you’re truly ready.

And yes – listen to your body. Really. Honestly. Listen.

Hugs,

Jen
